Shellfish Inspection Program

The Shellfish Inspection Program protects the health of consumers by regulating the processing and distribution of molluscan shellfish.

The Office of Food Protection is a partner with the R.I. Department of Environmental Management, United States Food and Drug Administration and the shellfish industry, in the National Shellfish Sanitation Program. The main objective of this program is to promote and improve the sanitation of shellfish in interstate commerce through Dealer Certification.
